DELEGATE WATKINS ABBITT JR. ANNOUNCES HIS RE-ELECTION
-SEEKS TO CONTINUE BEING A STRONG VOICE FOR RURAL VIRGINIA-

APPOMATTOX, VA – Delegate Watkins M. Abbitt, Jr. will be running for re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 59th House District of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“I believe that my greatest asset as Delegate is my commitment to being a strong voice for rural Virginia,” said Abbitt.  “I want to keep working to ensure our district gets the funding that we need for education, law enforcement, roads, and economic development to improve and preserve our unique quality of life.”

Abbitt represents the 59th House District, which includes the counties of Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, and Nelson, along with parts of Albemarle, Fluvanna, and Prince Edward.  He currently serves on the General Laws Committee, the Rules Committee, and the Appropriations Committee.  Abbitt also serves on several sub-committees, and serves as Chairman of the General Government Sub-Committee of the Appropriations Committee.  Serving on the House Appropriations Committee allows Abbitt to be integral in the writing of the state’s budget, and allows the district access to more opportunities through state funding.

Abbitt has been recognized for his contributions to protecting Virginia’s great natural heritage.  He has received awards ranging from the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts’ “Legislator of the Year,” to “Legislative Conservationist of the Year” recognition from the Virginia Wildlife Federation.  More recently, Abbitt was awarded with the “2008 Legislator of the Year Award” by the Treasurer’s Association of Virginia; “Legislator of the Year Award” by the Virginia Association of Local Elected Constitutional Officers; and an award recognizing Abbitt for his “outstanding legislative service for the improvement of criminal justice in Virginia” on behalf of the Virginia Sheriff’s Association.

“T. Jordan Miles III will be my Campaign Manager for this election.  Anytime that my constituents have a problem, issue, or concern they should feel free to call on Jordan and me. Our office is located on 274 Court Street in Appomattox, our mailing address is P. O. Box 683, Appomattox, VA 24522, and the office telephone number is 1-434-352-2880.”

Abbitt, 64, is a native of Appomattox County and grew up near where he and his wife, Madeline, currently reside on a farm.  A small-town businessman, he owns Conner-Abbitt Insurance, and a land-sales company, Abbitt Realty, which are both located in the town of Appomattox.

Watkins Abbitt was first elected to the House of Delegates in 1985.  He is currently completing his twelfth term as Delegate for the 59th District.
